The Gourmet Food Co

The Gourmet Food Co is tucked away in Wanoworie at Hole Wasti, right by Survey No 8. It’s not a shop where you come to sit down and eat, but more of a place where we prepare and pack everything. The building is simple and we focus more on what’s happening in the kitchen than how the outside looks. Most mornings start very early when the fresh ingredients arrive. There’s a lot of noise with crates being moved and water running in the big sinks. It smells like roasted spices and cooked grain most of the time, which is quite nice once you get used to it. We have a small team of local people who know exactly how we do things. We don't have a corporate office or a floor manager in a tie. We just wear our aprons and get to work. The space can get a bit tight when we have a big order to get out, and boxes end up stacked almost to the ceiling. We use simple equipment and rely on doing things the traditional way. It’s a lot of cleaning and prep work that people don't usually see. The neighborhood is a mix of houses and small businesses, so it feels very grounded. We aren't trying to be a massive factory; we just want to make sure the food we send out is handled right. It’s a busy, humid, and hardworking little spot that keeps us on our feet all day long.
