Shree Ganesh Flowers Decorators is located in Nigidi. It’s a simple setup, mostly just a space where we handle the fresh flowers and prepare the garlands. Every morning starts very early, usually before the sun is even up, when the fresh loads of flowers arrive from the market. The whole place smells like jasmine and roses for a few hours, which is the best part of the job. By the afternoon, the floor is usually covered in stems and discarded petals. We spend most of our time sitting on low stools, weaving flowers together or tying them onto frames for stage decorations. Nigidi is a bustling area, and we are right in the thick of it. People stop by to pick up small garlands for their home altars or to talk about bigger decorations for a function. We don’t have a fancy air-conditioned office; it’s an open-air kind of feel where the air moves through. We have some old buckets and shears scattered around. It’s just us and a couple of helpers who have been with us for years. We know which flowers last the longest in the heat and which ones to avoid. It’s a lot of manual labor and long hours on our feet. We don’t do much advertising; we just rely on the quality of the work we do every day. People in Nigidi know us, and we’ve been at this same spot for a long time now.
