Shivraj Flower Decorators is based out here in Baramati. Dealing with flowers means you are always living by the clock because they don't stay fresh for long. I spend a lot of time in the back cutting stems and picking off dead leaves. The floor is usually covered in wet petals and bits of green string. It is a bit damp in the shop because we have to keep the water spraying to keep the roses and marigolds from wilting in the Baramati heat. My fingers are usually stained green or have a few small scratches from the thorns. We don’t really do fancy office stuff, just mostly writing orders down in a notebook that’s seen better days. When a big wedding comes up, we are all working through the night to get the garlands ready. It is quiet in the early hours but then it gets hectic around nine when the deliveries start. I usually have a radio playing in the corner to keep me company while I work on the arrangements. It’s not a big corporate operation, just a few of us making sure the flowers look okay before they go out. Sometimes the truck is late and we all get a bit stressed, but usually, it works out in the end. The shop is just a plain room with a lot of buckets and some old benches, but it does the job for us. We also keep a few spare buckets of water for the really hot afternoons.
