S S Mandap Decorators

Our place is in the Shewale Complex at Chinchwad Chhani Jakat Naka. We have shops 170 and 176, which are right near the Annapurna Hotel. If you walk past there, you will probably see us loading poles or heavy curtains onto a rickshaw. S S Mandap Decorators is a family thing, mostly. We don’t have a website or anything like that. We just work from the shop and wait for the phone to ring. The complex is always busy, especially around lunchtime because of the hotel nearby. We spend a lot of time untangling ropes and checking if the fabrics have any holes in them. It’s a lot of physical work, especially in the heat. Our hands are usually a bit dirty from moving the iron frames for the mandaps. We don’t have air conditioning in the shop, so we stay near the entrance where there is a bit of a breeze. Sometimes the work goes late into the night, especially during the wedding season. We just sit on the floor and sort through the decorations. It isn't a fancy business, just a way to make a living. We’ve been here for a long time, and we know everyone in the complex. We don’t promise anything special, we just bring the stuff and set it up like we were told. It’s just us doing what we know how to do.
