Radheshyam Rice And Poha Mills is out here in Pirangut. It gets pretty busy around this part of Jilapune, especially during the harvest times when the trucks start rolling in. My family has been at this for a while now. We deal with rice and making poha every single day. The machines are old but they still do what they need to do. It’s a dusty place, honestly. You can smell the grain as soon as you turn onto our road in the Puna district. Mostly we just focus on getting the work done before it gets too hot in the afternoon. Some days are longer than others. When the monsoon hits, things slow down a bit because of the moisture. We have a few guys who have been working here for years and they know exactly how the huller sounds when it’s running right. It isn’t some fancy office setup with air conditioning. We just have the warehouse and the processing area where the bags get stacked up. People from the nearby villages come by often. We keep it simple. There is always a lot of cleaning to do because rice husks get everywhere. It’s hard work, but it is what we know. We just stay here in Pirangut and keep the mill going day after day. It’s a lot of manual work and we don't have many automated things to help us out. We just use our hands and the old machines we've always had. People come from the city sometimes to see how it’s done, but they usually leave pretty fast because of the heat. We don't mind it much.
