Poona Dal & Besan Mills Ltd.

Our mill is located at No. 71/A in the Industrial Estate in Hadapsar. It’s a busy part of town, and Poona Dal & Besan Mills Ltd. has been part of the landscape here for years. When you walk into the building, the first thing you notice is the sound of the grinders. It’s a constant hum that you eventually stop hearing. Everything is covered in a fine layer of flour dust, no matter how much we clean. We spend our days processing lentils and making besan, which is hard work and pretty repetitive. The industrial estate has a lot of other businesses, so there is always a lot of movement—trucks coming in with raw pulses and leaving with finished bags. We aren't a high-tech company with fancy software. Most of our machines are old but they work perfectly well for what we need. The staff here knows exactly how to listen to the machines to tell if something is wrong. We don't have a mission statement or anything like that. We just want to make sure the flour is ground right and delivered on time. It’s a practical, blue-collar environment where we focus on the task at hand. Sometimes the power goes out and we all just sit outside for a bit until it comes back. It’s just the way things go in Hadapsar. We keep it honest and keep it moving. No one here is looking for an award; we just want to make sure the bags of besan are ready for the morning dispatch.
