Mesai Dal Mill

We run the dal mill out in Kardelwadi, which is in the Shirur Taluka. It’s a bit of a trek from the main city, but this is where the work is. The mill has been standing for a long time, and we’ve been processing pulses here for as long as I can remember. It’s a noisy place once the machines start up. There’s always a bit of dust in the air, and it smells like raw lentils and earth. We don't have a fancy office or a big staff. It’s just a few of us who know how to keep the mill running properly. Farmers from around the district bring their grain to us, and we do the processing. It’s simple work, but it’s important for the local food supply. We don’t have any polished brochures or a marketing plan. Most people just know us because we’ve always been here. Sometimes things break down and we have to spend the day fixing a belt or a motor, but that’s just part of the life. We don't try to sound like a big corporation because we aren't one. We’re just a local mill doing a basic job. We stay busy through the harvest seasons and try to keep things moving. It’s an honest way to make a living in the district. We just keep our heads down and grind the grain for whoever needs it.
