Karachi Sweet Mart

We are on Airport Road at 124/21. It’s a busy spot because of the planes and everyone rushing around. Our shop, Karachi Sweet Mart, is just a regular place where we make sweets every day. The morning starts early, usually before the sun is even fully up, because the milk has to be boiled and the sugar needs to be melted down for the batches. It gets pretty hot in the back kitchen area. Sometimes the floor is a bit sticky from the syrup, no matter how much we scrub it. People come in looking for something to take on their flights or just for a quick bite while they wait for a bus. We don't have fancy decorations or anything. It’s just shelves with trays of barfi and gulab jamun. The regulars know us by name and we know what they want before they even say it. Usually, it’s just one or two guys behind the counter trying to keep up with the lunch rush. Sometimes the traffic outside is so loud we have to shout a bit to be heard. We just keep doing what we do. There isn’t much to it besides making sure the food is fresh and the lights are on. It’s been this way for a while now. We don't change things much because the way it is seems to work fine for the neighborhood people and the travelers passing through every single day.
