Janta Rice Centre

The Market Yard is always a loud place to be, and Janta Rice Centre is right in the middle of all that chaos at Pimple Saudagar. We occupy the 540/541 spots, which gives us enough room to stack the heavy bags of rice that come in. Most mornings start before the sun is even up properly because that’s when the trucks arrive and everything needs to be moved. It’s dusty work and by the end of the day, our shoes are usually white from the grain dust. We don't have a fancy website or a bunch of people in suits. It’s just us wearing old clothes and moving sacks around. People come in looking for a specific type of grain, maybe for a wedding or just for their home, and we show them what we’ve got in stock. Sometimes we have to explain why a certain type isn't available, but usually, we have plenty. The building isn't much to look at, just a practical space where we can keep the stock dry and safe. We’ve been at this for a while now, so we know most of the other traders in the yard. It’s a community, I suppose. We just focus on getting the bags weighed and sold so we can go home and rest. It’s tiring work but it’s what we know how to do.
