We have been running Gowerdhan Mangal Karyalay in Shaniwar Peth for a long time now. It’s right near Omkareshwar, so most people in the neighborhood know the spot. Usually, we deal with weddings and thread ceremonies. Sometimes it gets really loud with the brass bands and the drums playing outside on the street during processions. Inside, we just try to keep everything moving. We have these old metal chairs that we arrange in rows for the guests, then we have to clear them all out to set up the lunch plates later. It is a lot of sweeping and mopping after the families leave. My own family helps out with the bookings and the phone calls. We do not have a fancy website or a marketing person. People just walk in or call us when they have a function. The building is older, but it serves the purpose for local families who want a simple place. In the mornings, the sunlight comes in through the side windows and it looks quite nice before the big crowd arrives. We see the same decorators and cooks coming in year after year. It feels like a small community here. Sometimes the electricity acts up, but we have a backup generator. It is just how things go. We keep the water tanks full and make sure the place is decent for the guests. It is hard work during the peak season in May, and we don't get much sleep.
