Desi Mahila Udyog

We are located at 358 Shaniwar Peth in Pune. This is an old part of the city, and our building fits right in with the rest of the neighborhood. We've been here for a long time, working out of this small space. Desi Mahila Udyog is run by women from the local area. It’s not a corporate setup at all. We mostly handle things manually, the way they've been done for years. The rooms are filled with the stuff we make, and there’s always someone busy doing something. Shaniwar Peth is a crowded place with narrow lanes, so it’s not always easy to find us if you're new to the area. But the locals know the way. We don't have a fancy showroom or a big glass front. It’s just a workspace where we get our daily tasks done. We started this to help the women here find some work, and it’s grown slowly over time. There are no big missions or flashy goals here. We just show up, do the work, and go home to our families. It’s a very grounded way of living. We've seen many changes in Pune, but Shaniwar Peth stays much the same, and so do we. The 411030 area is quiet in some spots and loud in others, and we just fit right into the middle of it. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat while we work. It makes the day go by a bit faster.
