Deepesh Pan Merchants

Deepesh Pan Merchants is located in Shukrawar Peth, inside the Alok Nagari area. This is one of the older parts of the city, so it feels very different from the new suburbs. The lanes are narrow and there’s a lot of history around here. Our shop is more of a wholesale and retail mix, which is why we call ourselves merchants. Deepesh is the one in charge. We have bags of betel nuts and large bundles of leaves delivered every few days. The shop itself is inside the Alok Nagari complex, which is a bit quieter than the main street. We spend our time sorting through the leaves and grading them. Some are better for certain types of pan. We also sell the various spices and mixtures that other smaller stalls might need. It’s a bit messy inside because of all the supplies, but we know where everything is. The people who live in Shukrawar Peth are our main customers. They’ve been living here for generations. They come in and talk about the old days while we prepare their orders. It’s not a fast-paced place. We take our time. The air in the Peth is always full of the smell of spices and old buildings. We like it here because it feels like home. We’re just a regular business doing our thing day after day.
