Bombay Dal & Besan Mills

At Bombay Dal & Besan Mills, things usually start pretty early in the morning. We are situated over in Nehru Nagar at the Shreeji Complex, specifically taking up units 18 and 21/A. It is a loud place sometimes because of the machinery running. You can often smell what we are working on before you even get through the door. The complex stays busy with trucks coming in and out to drop off loads or pick things up. We spend a lot of time just moving bags around and making sure the machines are actually doing what they are supposed to. It is dusty work, and by the end of the shift, most of us have a layer of flour on our clothes. We are not really set up for visitors to sit and chat, as there is always something that needs fixing or cleaning. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it gets hot outside. We have been in this spot for years, so we know the other guys in the complex pretty well. There is a small tea stall nearby where we go when we need a break from the noise. It is not a glamorous job, but it is steady. We just focus on getting the dal and besan processed and out the door to wherever it needs to go next. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, which is just how it goes here.
