If you go to Sadashiv Peth, you usually see a lot of vegetarian places, but we’ve been here at Panchavati Society in Sharad Nagar for a while. It’s located at number 536. My family started this because we knew people around here wanted something different. It’s a small setup, nothing like those big restaurants in the city. We have these basic tables and chairs that have seen better days. The paint on the walls is a bit faded, but the kitchen stays busy. You can smell the spices from the street when we start cooking in the late afternoon. We don't have a massive menu. We just cook what we know how to make well. Sometimes we run out of things early, and people get a bit annoyed, but that’s just how it is when you cook in small batches. My brother helps out with the serving while I stay near the stove. It gets really hot in there, especially during the summer months. We get a lot of students and people living in the hostels nearby who miss home food. They sit there and eat quickly so others can have a seat. There’s a washbasin in the corner that drips a little bit, no matter how many times I tighten the tap. It’s a loud, busy place during dinner time, but it’s honest work. We just keep the stoves going.
