Manna Kumar

I have this shop in Dujra, over in the Raja Pur Mainpura area of Patna. It is really easy to find because we are right near the petrol pump. Having the pump nearby means there is always a lot of movement—cars and bikes coming and going all the time. My shop, Manna Kumar, is just a small local spot where I keep the essential things people need. I’ve got snacks, drinks, and various household supplies. It’s a one-man show mostly. I open up early before the heat of the day really kicks in. The shop doesn’t have much in the way of decoration. I just focus on having the stock ready. People stopping for petrol often pop in to grab a bottle of water or some biscuits. Then there are the regulars who live in the houses behind the main road. We’ve become friends over the years. Some days are slow and I just sit on the stool and watch the traffic go by. Other days, I don’t even have time to eat my lunch because it’s so busy. It is a bit of a dusty job, being so close to the road and the pump, but I keep a rag handy to wipe down the counters. I’m just a regular guy running a regular shop for the local community here in Patna. There’s nothing fancy about it, just a place to get your basics and move on with your day.
