Apollo Battery House is down on Sumerpur Road inside the Maheshwari Maarket area. It is a heavy kind of job working here. The shop is full of big lead batteries for cars and tractors and even those big ones for home inverters when the power goes out. My hands are usually a bit dirty from grease or checking the distilled water levels in the cells. It’s not a quiet place because the market is always humming with people and the sound of engines. We have stacks of black battery casings all along the walls and the smell of acid and metal is just part of the air here. People bring in their old batteries that won't start anymore, and I have to test them to see if they can be charged up again or if they are just dead. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, moving those things from the floor to the bench. The shop floor is concrete and has some stains from years of work. Sometimes the Maarket gets very crowded and it’s hard for trucks to drop off the new stock. We just keep working through the heat. There is a small bench for people to sit on while they wait for me to finish a repair or a checkup. It’s a simple setup with a few tools, some wires, and a lot of heavy lifting every day.
