About Shree Balaji Handicrafts – Art & Craft in North East Delhi
Our workshop is tucked away at X 68 Brahampuri Street 13, and it’s usually pretty crowded with materials. We spend most of our time working on different handmade pieces, so there is always some wood shavings or paint smells in the air. It’s not a big factory; it’s more of a local place where a few of us sit and put things together by hand. Some days are slower than others, especially when we are waiting for new supplies to arrive down the narrow street. We’ve been in Brahampuri for a long time, so most of the neighbors know us and what we do. The shelves in the front are filled with things we’ve finished, but it’s mostly a working space. We don’t really do fancy displays. If you walk in, you’ll probably see someone sanding down an edge or fixing a small detail on a statue or a frame. We use tools that have seen better days, but they still work just fine for what we need. It’s a bit messy, with scraps of cloth and bits of metal scattered around, but we know where everything is. We just focus on making things that look decent and last a while. It’s a quiet life here on Street 13, just doing the work we know how to do without making a big deal out of it. Most of what we make goes to people nearby who want something simple for their homes.
