Akram Handicraft

Our workshop is at H-1351 in Brahmapuri. It’s more of a home-based setup than a big factory. Akram started it a long time ago and we just kept it going. We make different handicrafts here. Most of the work is done by hand with simple tools. You can hear the hammering and the scraping if you walk by the house. Brahmapuri is a residential area, so it’s a bit quieter than the big markets, but the streets are still narrow. We have pieces of wood and metal lying around the courtyard. It’s not very organized, but we know where the important stuff is. Sometimes we work late into the night if we have a lot to finish. The family helps out when they can. We don’t have a showroom, so people usually come straight to the house to see what we are making. We don’t use any fancy machines, just what we’ve always used. The tea is always on the stove for anyone who drops by. We don’t talk about being the best or anything, we just try to make things that don't break. Sometimes a piece goes wrong and we have to start over. That’s just part of the job. It’s a simple business at H-1351 and we like it that way. We just keep doing what we know and hope for the best.
