Wintex Ties Mfg. Co.

Our workshop is at A-3 in the Ankur Tower Commercial Complex over in Dr. Mukarji Nagar. It’s a bit of a climb if the lift is acting up, which happens more than we'd like, but we’re used to it. Wintex Ties Mfg. Co. is where we spend our days making neckties. If you come by, you’ll see rolls of silk and polyester everywhere. There are sewing machines set up along the windows to catch the natural light. Making a good tie is more work than it looks. You have to get the lining just right so it hangs straight. We have a few people who have been sewing these for decades. They can do it with their eyes shut almost. The floor usually has little bits of thread and silk scraps on it by the afternoon. We pack everything ourselves right here in the back room. Mukarji Nagar is a lively place with lots of students and shops, so there’s always something going on outside. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most of our space is taken up by the cutting tables and the storage racks. We just focus on getting the stitching tight and the patterns lined up. It’s a small operation, really. Just a bunch of us working with fabric and needles. Sometimes we have an old radio playing in the corner to keep the mood up while we work. It’s simple work but it keeps us busy from morning till evening. It’s just how we like it.
