Sita Ram Bazar is always crowded, and our place is tucked away in Gali Inder Wali. We've been making hats at number 921 for a long time. It’s a narrow street so you have to walk mostly. We make all sorts of headwear here. The machines are running most of the day. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside with all the fabric and boxes everywhere. We don’t really have a fancy office. It’s more of a workshop where everyone knows how to handle the needles and the fabric. We get a lot of local buyers who know the shortcut through the lanes. Some days are busier than others especially when there’s a big order to finish. We drink a lot of tea while we work. The building is old but it stays cool in the summer. We just focus on getting the stitching right. Most of the guys here have been with us for years. We aren't trying to change the world, just making sure the hats are sturdy. People find us by asking around the gali if they get lost. It’s just how things work in this part of town. We keep the doors open and the work going. That's the way Gupta Hat Industries has always been.
