Vivek Prasad

Vivek Prasad works out of chambers 459 to 461 on the Civil Side of the Tis Hazari court complex. This part of the court is always buzzing with activity from early morning until late in the evening. The chambers are small and are packed with books and case files from floor to ceiling. There isn’t much room to move around once a few people are inside, so things can feel a bit crowded. The walls are a bit stained from years of use, and the furniture is heavy and made of dark wood. Outside the door, the corridor is usually full of people waiting their turn or talking in low voices. We get our tea from a small vendor nearby who brings it in little glass cups. The smell of old paper and ink is everywhere, which is typical for a place like Tis Hazari. We don't have fancy air conditioning, just some fans that move the humid air around during the monsoon months. Most of the day is spent reading through documents or talking to people who come by with their problems. It is a very practical and no-nonsense kind of place. There are no decorations on the walls, just some calendars and maybe a clock that is a few minutes fast. It’s the kind of environment where you focus on the task at hand because there is always something else waiting to be finished before the day ends.
