Varun Handicrafts

Down in Vakilpura, near Jama Masjid, is where you will find Varun Handicrafts at house number 1240. This part of the city is always packed with people and the smell of food from the nearby stalls. Our workshop is right in the middle of all that chaos. It’s a place where we’ve worked for years, surrounded by the tools and materials we use every day. The space isn’t very big, so we have to be careful where we step. There’s usually dust on everything, no matter how much we clean. That is just part of working with handicrafts. We don’t have a fancy showroom with air conditioning. It’s just us, some benches, and a lot of hard work. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to sit by the door to get enough light to see what we are doing. The neighbors are mostly other people doing similar work, so there is a lot of shouting back and forth across the lane. We’ve known the family next door for ages. We don’t really do much advertising or anything like that. People usually find us by word of mouth or because they’ve been coming here for a long time. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way to run a business, but it works for us. We just try to make things that people will want to take home. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until night.
