About Surinder Handicrafts – Art & Craft in North Delhi
If you go down to 1246/2 in Chah Rahat, near the Jama Masjid, you’ll find us at Surinder Handicrafts. It’s an old part of the city, and the lanes are pretty narrow and crowded. Our shop has been around here for a long time. It’s a small space, packed with all sorts of things we’ve made. There’s usually a lot of activity outside the door, with people walking by and vendors shouting. Inside, it’s a bit calmer, though we’re usually busy with our hands. We do a lot of traditional work that’s been passed down. It’s not a modern shop with glass windows and air conditioning. It’s more of a traditional workshop where the focus is on the craft itself. We have stacks of items everywhere, and sometimes it's hard to move around if we have a lot of stock. Most people who come to us are looking for something specific they can’t find in the bigger stores. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just open up in the morning and see who comes by. The lighting isn't great, but we’ve worked here so long we can do most of it by feel anyway. It's a simple life and we’re happy to be part of the community around the Masjid. Surinder Handicrafts is just a small piece of this busy neighborhood. We spend our evenings packing up whatever sold that day and getting ready for the next morning to start all over again.
