Indian Cottage Industries

You can find us over at 43-C in Pocket-C of Phase 3 in Ashok Vihar. It’s a bit of a maze back here, but once you get used to the narrow streets, it’s not too bad. Indian Cottage Industries is a small operation we’ve been running for quite some time now. We don't have a big factory or anything like that. It’s more of a workshop where we keep all our raw materials and the tools we use for our daily production. The space is often filled with boxes and piles of stuff waiting to be sorted out. We have a few local workers who come in every morning to help with the assembly and the packing. It can get pretty loud when everyone is talking and working at the same time. The light in the workshop isn't the best, so we use some extra lamps to see what we are doing. We usually keep the main door open to let some fresh air in, though it brings in the noise from the street too. Our neighbors are mostly other small businesses, so we all know each other and sometimes share a cup of tea during the afternoon break. We don't really do much advertising; most people just find us through word of mouth or because they’ve seen our sign in the alley. It’s a modest way to make a living, but it keeps us busy and part of the local community here in Ashok Vihar.
