National Craft

Finding us can be a bit tricky if you aren't familiar with the area behind Filmistan Cinema. We are tucked away at 7786, B/5, Katra Atma Ram on Chamelian Road. It’s a busy part of Bara Hindu Rao. At National Craft, we make things by hand mostly. There’s a lot of noise from the street and from our own tools. It’s a dusty place with wood shavings or metal scraps depending on the day. We’ve been in this katra for a long time. The space is cramped, but we know where everything is. You have to watch your step because of the narrow lanes. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know us from being here. We work on whatever orders come in, sometimes it's small decorative bits, sometimes bigger stuff. The tea boy comes by twice a day, which is the highlight for most of us. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in Delhi. We just want to finish the work on the bench and go home. The lighting isn't great in the back, but we manage. It’s an old building with a lot of history. You can hear the city humming all around us. We just keep our heads down and focus on the craft. It's honest work, even if the floor is never really clean. Sometimes we work late under a single bulb. It's a bit rough around the edges, but it's where we work every day.
