Krishna Cloth House

Krishna Cloth House has been in Katra Neel for a long time. Our address is 465 Outer Katra Neel, right in the middle of the Chandni Chowk chaos. If you know this area, you know how crowded it gets with rickshaws and people carrying big bundles of fabric on their heads. Our shop is just one of many in these narrow lanes, but we’ve got our own little spot. We deal with a lot of loose cloth and unstitched materials for suits and shirts. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so we have to use an old wooden ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It’s dusty and loud outside, but inside it’s just the sound of fabric being unrolled on the counter. We don't have much room for people to walk around, so everyone just stands by the entrance. My grandfather knew everyone in this market, and we still talk to the same families who have been here for decades. It’s a lot of tradition, I guess. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for deliveries to arrive through the traffic. Sometimes the trucks can't get into the lane, so we have to carry everything by hand from the main road. It’s hard work, but this is the only way of life we know. Chandni Chowk is a world of its own, and we are just a small part of it.
