Down in Kashmere Gate, right in the heart of Bara Bazar, you’ll find us at Shop No 1066/7. Balwant Export Import Pvt Ltd has been operating out of this crowded area for quite some time. The streets here are narrow and always full of handcarts and people carrying heavy bundles on their heads. Our shop is where all the coordination happens. There are stacks of files and ledgers everywhere because we still like to keep track of things on paper when we can. It’s a very busy environment with people coming in to talk about shipments and prices. We deal with a lot of different goods, so the inventory is always changing. It can get a bit overwhelming when three deliveries show up at the same time and there is no room to move on the sidewalk. We just drink our chai and handle one thing at a time. The building is old, and the walls have that weathered look you only get in this part of Delhi. We don’t have a big corporate lobby or anything like that. It’s just a place where business gets done between the noise of the market and the heat of the afternoon. We know the other traders nearby, and we all sort of help each other out when the traffic gets stuck. It is a long day every day, but we are used to the pace of Bara Bazar by now.
