Chawla Handicrafts

We are over at 8192 Chimni Mill, right on Jhansi Road near the old Filmistan building. It’s a bit of an old industrial area, so the building has some character, to say the least. There is always some dust in the air from the crafts and the street outside. We have piles of things everywhere—wood, fabric, and whatever else we are working on that week. It’s not a showroom where everything is neat and tidy. It’s a workshop. You’ll hear a lot of banging and sawing if you come by during the day. We’ve got a few workers who have been with us for years, and they know the routines better than anyone. We don’t really spend money on fancy websites or brochures. Most of our work goes out to other shops or people who know what we do. The stairs are a little creaky and the paint is peeling in a few spots, but the work gets done. We start early in the morning before the heat gets too bad. Sometimes we get orders for things we’ve never made before, and we just have to figure it out as we go. It’s a lot of manual labor and getting our hands dirty. We just like making things and making sure they are sturdy enough to last. It’s a busy life, but it suits us well enough.
