Resumes(House Of Placement)

Down here in New Barrackpur, our office at 262/1 Durga Bari Road is always full of papers. Resumes(House Of Placement) is basically a small operation run out of this space. Sudipta and the rest of us spend the day looking at CVs and talking to people who are looking for work. The building is an older one, the kind where you know all the neighbors and their kids. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but people find us eventually. We have piles of folders on almost every flat surface in the room. Most mornings start with checking emails and seeing who has sent in their details overnight. It’s quiet enough on this street, though you hear the occasional rickshaw passing by outside. We don't have a big reception desk or a waiting room with magazines. People just pull up a plastic chair and tell us what kind of job they need for their future. It’s honest work, trying to match a person with a company that needs them. Sometimes we have to explain to candidates that things take time and patience. We drink a lot of tea while we sort through the different categories of jobs. Being in the North 24 Parganas district means we see a lot of local talent coming through our doors. It’s just a practical, everyday sort of place where we try to help folks get their foot in the door and find a steady paycheck.
