We set up shop here at Gopeswar Ghosh’s place in Prantick Ichapur. It’s a residential area mostly, so it’s a bit quieter than being right in the middle of a big city. Being in Nawabganj means we are part of the local community in the 24 Pgs (N) district. The office is basically a few rooms where we keep our files and the computer. You can see the post office from the corner, which is handy for all the mail we have to send out. At Lafarge India Pvt. Ltd., our daily life involves a lot of checking and re-checking the numbers for the local deliveries. It is not the kind of place with a big sign or shiny glass doors. We just have a small nameplate and a heavy wooden door. The floors are a bit uneven, but nobody really cares as long as the work gets done. Most of us have been living in this area for years, so we know the shortcuts through the streets when the traffic gets heavy. We usually have a pot of tea going in the afternoon to keep us moving. It’s an honest way to spend the day, just making sure the supply chain keeps moving without too many hiccups. We don't use fancy systems, just a lot of pens and paper and some old-fashioned talking to get things sorted for the neighbors and local builders. It is a steady pace that keeps the work manageable for everyone.
