Our place is tucked away in Street Number 10 over in Tughlakabad Extension. It’s a bit of a maze back here at Rz-91, especially if you aren’t used to the narrow lanes and the way the houses all look similar. We’ve been running the silk mills here for a long time. It’s not a quiet job. The machines make a lot of noise, and there is always a layer of lint on the floor no matter how many times we sweep it up. Most of the guys working here have been with us since the start. We just get on with it. The street is always busy with people moving back and forth, and sometimes getting a tempo in here to load up the silk is a real headache. You have to know the right time to move things before the traffic gets stuck. Inside, it’s mostly just rows of machinery and stacks of finished material waiting for the trucks. We don’t have a big reception area or anyone to greet you at the door. You just walk in and find someone. It’s a practical setup. We spend our days checking the threads and making sure the looms are running like they should. It’s honest work, even if it’s hot and cramped during the summer months. Tughlakabad is a rough and tumble place, but it suits us just fine for what we do.
