We have been operating Afia Textile out of 25-a Jogabai Main Road for quite some years now. Jamia Nagar is a busy place, and our spot right on the main road means there is always noise and people moving about outside. Inside, it is mostly quiet except for the sound of fabric being unrolled or the occasional phone ringing. We handle a lot of different materials here. Sometimes the stock builds up so high you can barely see the back wall. It is just a regular workspace with wooden shelves and a few old chairs that have seen better days. We start early most mornings, usually before the traffic gets really bad. The air inside smells like fresh cotton and sometimes a bit of dust. We spend a lot of time just measuring things out and checking for any snags in the cloth. It is not glamorous work, but it keeps us busy. My hands are usually dry from touching the fabric all day long. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It is just a place where we get the textiles ready for whoever needs them. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a short break on the front step. The street outside gets muddy when it rains, and we have to be careful not to track it onto the lighter fabrics. We use an old calculator that has some sticky buttons, so you have to press them hard. We just try to do an honest day's work here.
