If you head down to Lodhi Road, you’ll find us at Ispat Bhavan. This is where the Steel Authority of India, or SAIL as most people call it, has its main office. It’s a big, solid building that’s been here for quite some time. Even though the company is huge, those of us working here at Ispat Bhavan just see it as our daily workplace. The hallways are long and there are a lot of desks piled high with files and reports about steel production. We spend a lot of time on the phone or in meetings talking about tons of metal and shipping logs. It’s a lot of paperwork, to be honest. You can hear the hum of the air conditioning and the constant clicking of keyboards throughout the day. We aren't trying to sound like a fancy tech company. We deal with steel, which is heavy and basic. Our office reflects that in a way. It’s functional and built to last. People come and go through the main doors all day, from government officials to delivery guys. We have a post box, P.B. No. 673, that gets stuffed with mail every single morning. It’s a busy place, and sometimes it feels a bit old-fashioned with all the physical folders and ledgers we still use. We just focus on keeping the records straight and making sure the steel business keeps moving along from our spot on Lodhi Road every day.
