Being in the iron market means there is always a lot of heavy lifting and the sound of metal clanging around. It’s a dusty place, to be honest, but that’s just how it goes when you’re dealing with steel and iron all day. Our plot isn’t anything fancy, just a sturdy space where we keep the stock and load up the lorries. The traffic in Naraina can be a real headache, especially during the peak hours when everyone is trying to move their goods at once. We usually start early to beat the worst of it. The guys here are used to the hard work. We don't spend much time sitting in the office; mostly we’re out there checking the piles and making sure the measurements are right for the customers. It’s a straightforward business. You need steel, we find it for you in the yard. We’ve seen the market go up and down, but we just keep showing up and doing the same thing every day. It’s a bit of a rough-and-tumble environment, but we wouldn’t really know what else to do with ourselves if we weren't here in the thick of the Mandi. We just stay busy with the cranes and the cutting.
