Lord Krishna Ispat Trading Co. is on the first floor of the Ashoka Complex, which is Y-9 in the Naraina Loha Mandi. If you’ve ever been to Loha Mandi, you know it’s just a sea of iron and steel. There are massive trucks everywhere and the ground is always covered in rust and grit. Our office is up a flight of concrete stairs that are a bit worn down. Inside, it’s mostly just desks piled high with invoices and delivery notes. We trade in iron and steel products, acting as the middleman for a lot of construction projects. The noise from the cranes and the loading bays outside is constant, so we have to talk pretty loud to be heard. We don’t have any fancy air conditioning, just some ceiling fans that hum all day. We spend most of our time on the phone, checking prices and making sure deliveries are on track. It’s a hectic place to work, but there’s a certain energy to the market that I like. We aren't a big corporation with polished floors; we’re just traders trying to make a margin. We know the other traders in the complex and we often share a meal or some tea while we talk shop. It’s a community of people who don’t mind getting their hands a bit dirty to get the job done. That is just the way things are here.
