Kalakriti

Kalakriti is located at 53 Panchkuian Road. If you know Delhi at all, you know this road is famous for furniture and all sorts of household things. We are right in the middle of all that chaos every single day. It's always noisy with the traffic and the sound of hammers and saws from the nearby shops. Our place is quite old and the ceiling is very high. We have stuff piled up almost to the top because there isn't enough floor space. It can be hard to move around sometimes without bumping into something. We’ve been on Panchkuian Road for a long time. We’ve seen the metro come in and the whole street change over the decades. The dust is a constant battle here, no matter how much we sweep or clean. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights to attract people. We just have our items laid out where there's room. Most of our day is spent talking to customers who are walking down the street looking for a bargain. It’s a lot of haggling and long conversations. We drink a lot of tea to keep our energy up. The shop doesn't have air conditioning, just a few old ceiling fans that click when they turn. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We don't use computers for much, mostly just handwritten bills and a big ledger. It’s simple and it works well for us. We like the energy.
