Sumit Foods

Being in the APMC Market II in Vashi means our day starts a lot earlier than most people’s. We at Sumit Foods are located at L-26, Phase II, in Sector 19. By the time the sun is up, the trucks are already lined up and the noise is constant. There’s a lot of shouting and the sound of heavy bags being dropped. We deal with food items, so there’s always a specific smell in the air, like dried grains or spices. Our space is basically a big storage area with a small corner for a desk. We spend most of our time counting stock and talking to traders. It’s a hectic environment, and you have to watch your step with all the handcarts moving around. The floors are dusty, and there’s always a bit of trash from the packaging lying around that needs sweeping. We grab lunch whenever there’s a quiet moment, which isn't very often. Vashi can be a bit overwhelming if you aren't used to the market crowd, but we’ve been here long enough that it feels normal. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to sit in the dark for a bit, waiting for it to come back so we can finish the billing. It’s a loud, busy life here in the market, but it keeps us on our toes and the days go by pretty fast. We just focus on getting the food sacks moved out to the local shops.
