We’re out in the M.I.D.C. Industrial Area in Ambad, specifically at plot B-87. Nashik is a good place for this kind of work, and we’ve been here for a long time. As the name says, we make magnets. It’s a heavy kind of job, lots of metal and machines that hum all day long. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s baking outside. We have a fairly big space because the equipment takes up a lot of room. There’s always a bit of iron dust around, no matter how much we sweep up. The guys wear heavy boots and move pallets around with the jack. It’s not a glamorous business, but magnets are needed for so many things people use every day. We get orders from all over, so the loading dock stays busy with trucks coming and going. Our office is just a partitioned area off the main floor where the phones ring and the invoices get typed up. It’s loud in the back, so we have to talk a bit louder to be heard over the noise. Most of us have been working in this industrial zone for years, so we know the neighbors and the tea stall guys well. We don't have any fancy mission statements on the walls, just some old calendars and safety posters. We show up, run the machines, pack the orders, and head home.
