You can find us, Unnatkrushi Farmers Producer Company Limited, over at Shri Vedu Sadashiv Patil’s place in Pimpari. We're part of the Shahad area in Nandurbar district. This whole thing started because a few of us were sitting around talking about how hard it’s become to make a profit these days. Costs for everything keep going up, but the prices we get for our produce don’t seem to follow. So, we figured we’d be better off if we pooled our resources. It’s not a polished business with a marketing plan. It’s more of a collective of neighbors who trust each other. We use the space in Pimpari to store some of our records and meet up when there’s a decision to be made. Sometimes the meetings go on for a long time because everyone has an opinion and we’re all pretty stubborn. But that’s just how it is when you’re dealing with people who work the land for a living. We aren’t looking for fame or to become some big name in the industry. We just want to make sure the farmers around here don't get left behind. We know the struggles because we live them every single day. It’s a lot of work, and the results aren't always what we hope for, but at least we’re doing it together now. It feels better than being all alone out there in the fields.
