We’ve been up here at Grassmere Estate in Mallital for a good while now. It’s a quiet spot, away from the main noise of the lake, though you can still walk down if you’re up for a bit of a climb on the way back. Most days, we just focus on keeping things running smoothly. The house itself has some history, and we try to look after it without changing too much of the old feel. My family and the staff here mostly just know the regulars and the folks who wander in looking for a place to stay while exploring Nainital. It gets pretty cold in the winter months, so we spend a lot of time making sure there’s enough wood and the rooms are decent. We don’t have fancy brochures or a big team of people doing sales. It’s mostly just us. Sometimes the power goes out when it rains hard, but that’s just part of living in the hills. We keep a few books around and the garden stays mostly green if the monkeys don't get to it first. It’s a simple setup really. We aren't trying to be anything other than a place to rest your head. If you find yourself near Mallital, you’ll see our gate. It’s not hard to find if you know where the estate is. We just go about our business day to day, making sure the tea is hot and the beds are made.
