Amar Travel Agency is situated right on Nainital Road in Kathgodam. If you are coming off a train, we are right there by the railway station. It’s a noisy spot with all the trains and buses, but it makes sense for a travel desk. People get off the train feeling tired and they just want to get to the hills. We handle a lot of that. We have been sitting in this office for years now. Most of our day is spent coordinating with drivers and checking the train timings. Sometimes the trains are late, so we wait around. It is a simple setup here. We don't use much technology, mostly just notebooks and phone calls to keep track of who is going where. The road outside stays busy from early morning until late at night. We see a lot of faces passing through. Some people stop for a quick direction, others need a full plan for their week in the mountains. We just tell them what is possible and what isn't. The hills can be tricky with traffic and rain. We grew up around these parts, so we know which turns take longer. It is just a regular local business. We don't try to be anything else. We are just here near the tracks, helping folks get their bags into a vehicle so they can start their trip up.
