Indian Institute Of Design

The Indian Institute Of Design is set up at Plot No 27, which is the Daga Bungalow in Dharampeth. It is quite a nice old spot, right near the Khare Town Post Office and across from S M Computers. Being in an old bungalow gives us a different feeling than being in a modern office block. There is a bit more character to the walls and the rooms here. We spend our days surrounded by sketches, models, and students who are trying to learn the ropes of design. It is not always organized perfectly, but that is just how creative spaces tend to be. There are scraps of paper and fabric samples all over the place. We do not have a big marketing department or polished speeches. We just show people how to draw, build, and think about space. Nagpur's Dharampeth area is perfect for this because there is so much inspiration just walking down the street. We have had a lot of different people walk through these doors over the years. Some are serious, some are just curious, but we treat everyone the same. We are not a massive institution with thousands of people. We are just a local group teaching design in a way that makes sense to us. It is a practical, hands-on environment where you are more likely to find someone with ink on their hands than someone in a tie. We just like to see what the students come up with.
