Being situated right on the By Pass Road means there is always traffic moving past Bapu Institute Of Technology. It’s a bit of a landmark for people driving through. The institute is usually full of students who are trying to figure out their machines or sitting in the labs working on projects. It’s not always quiet here. You hear the sound of heavy trucks outside and the chatter of students in the corridors. Most of the staff have been around for years. We know the local shops where everyone goes for a quick tea during the breaks. The building is functional. It’s got classrooms that have seen a lot of use over the seasons. We don't have many frills. The focus is usually on getting the practical work done so the students actually know how to use their hands. Sometimes the computers act up or a fan needs fixing, and we just deal with it as it happens. People come from different parts of the district to study here. They spend a lot of time in the workshops getting grease on their hands or looking at circuit boards. In the evenings, when the sun starts to go down over the bypass, the place finally gets a bit still. We lock up the gates and get ready to do it all over again the next morning. It’s hard work for the students, but they seem to manage. We just provide the space and the tools they need for their training and hope they find good jobs later on.
