Teresa School

Teresa School is tucked away in Mamballi, over in Mullur. It’s a quiet corner of the world, which is actually quite nice for a school. You won't find much noise here besides the birds and the occasional tractor passing by. The school building is older, with thick walls that stay relatively cool even when the sun is out in full force. We have a playground area that is mostly dirt and some grass, where the children play during their lunch hour. It’s a simple setup. Most of the kids come from the surrounding houses, so everyone knows everyone else. We have a few classrooms with wooden benches and blackboards that we’ve used for years. It’s the kind of place where you can hear the chanting of tables coming from the open windows if you walk past at the right time. We don't really have a big administration block. Usually, if someone needs to talk to us, they just come to the main door and ask. The routine doesn't change much from season to season. We open the gates early, the kids arrive with their bags, and we get to work. It’s a very local feel, nothing like those big city schools you see on TV. We just focus on the lessons and making sure everyone has what they need for the day. Sometimes the wind kicks up a lot of leaves, and we have to sweep the porch twice before noon.
