St George'S Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School & Orphanage

Down in the North Block of Bogadi, at No 2, is where St George'S Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School & Orphanage sits. It’s a bit of a unique setup because we have the school and the orphanage together. This means the place is rarely ever empty. There is always someone around, whether it is during the school day or in the evenings. Being an Anglo Indian school, there is a certain history to how we do things, but we don't make a big fuss about it. It’s just part of our identity. The buildings are older and have a lot of character, even if they need a bit of paint here and there. We deal with all sorts of challenges every day. Running an orphanage alongside a secondary school takes a lot of effort from everyone involved. We don't have a big corporate budget, so we make do with what we have. The kids here come from different backgrounds, and they all study together in the same classrooms. It’s a place where life happens in a very real way. We don't use fancy language to talk about our work. We just provide a place for these kids to stay and a school for them to learn in. Bogadi is a good area for this, a bit away from the main city rush.
