Vijay Stores

My shop is in the Kajupada area of Andheri East, right on Pipeline Road. We are in the Shukratara building, Shop No 1. If you go behind St Jude, you will find us easily. Mumbai is a fast city, and this neighborhood is no different. There is always noise from the street and people rushing by. I’ve been running Vijay Stores for quite some time now. It’s a small space, so I have to be careful about how I stack the biscuits and the soaps so they don't fall over. I handle all the daily household items people need. Sometimes it gets really crowded in the evenings when people are coming back from the station. I know most of the people living in the building above and the ones across the road. We talk about the weather or the price of onions while I bag their items. I don’t have any fancy displays or neon signs. It’s just a regular store where you get what you need and go. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but I’m too busy to get to it right now. I just focus on keeping the shelves full and making sure I don't run out of milk in the morning. It can be tiring, but it’s my life and I like the bustle of Kajupada.
