U M Sheth

U M Sheth is based out of C 112 in Kandivali West. The place is in the B D D Chawl area, specifically Kamla Vihar. If you know this part of Kandivali, it’s right opposite the Kamla Vihar Sports Club. You can hear the kids playing or people at the club most of the day, which makes it feel alive. The chawl life is what it is. It’s close-knit and a bit loud with everyone so close together. Our space is small and we’ve got things tucked into every corner and on top of the cupboards. There isn't much room to move around if more than two people are inside at the same time. We have some old cupboards and a desk that’s seen better days, but it does the job. The walls are thin so you hear the neighbors and the street life pretty clearly throughout the day. It’s an honest kind of place. We don’t have fancy air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that hums along. In the monsoon, the rain hits the roof so hard we have to shout a little to be heard over the noise. We’ve been here in this chawl for quite some time now. People walk by the door all day long on their way to the sports club or the main road. It’s just a regular office in a regular neighborhood. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. It’s just us here in Kandivali.
