Surbhi General Store

Shop No 5 in the Godavari Building has been our base for quite some time now. We are located in the Shantivan area of Borivali East, right on Shantivan Road. It’s a lively spot, especially with Sona Talkies being so close by. When there is a big movie release, the whole street feels different. Most of our regular customers are the people living in the Godavari building or the other apartments nearby. They drop in for their daily bread, eggs, and whatever else they ran out of in the kitchen. The Mumbai humidity can be tough, so we keep the fans running at full speed all day. I spend a lot of time wiping down the glass counters because they get smudged so easily. We carry a bit of everything, from notebooks and pens for the school kids to cleaning supplies for the households. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze behind the counter, especially when we are trying to restock the heavy bags of rice. I’ve lived in this area for years, so I know most of the people by name. We talk about the weather or the traffic while I settle their bills. It’s not a fancy supermarket, just a local store where things are a bit cluttered but you can always find what you're looking for. Sometimes the cat from the street wanders in and I have to shoo it out. It’s just a normal, busy life in Borivali and we are happy to stay right here.
