Steaming Momos is located in the Dariapur area of Andheri. It started as a small idea and just grew from there. The name says exactly what we do. There’s always a big steamer going on the counter. You can see the clouds of steam as soon as you walk up. It’s a small space. There isn't much room for sitting, so most people just stand around or take their food to go. We spend hours folding the dough. It’s a repetitive task, but you get used to the rhythm of it. Each one has to be closed just right so it doesn't open up while cooking. The neighborhood is always moving. Andheri is never really quiet. We hear the cars and the people chatting all evening. We open up in the afternoon when people are looking for a snack. It stays busy until late. Sometimes we run out of certain fillings early. That’s frustrating for customers, but we only make a certain amount each day. We don't want anything sitting around. Everything is made fresh right there in the shop. It’s a simple setup. A few burners, the steamers, and a counter. We don't have a big staff. Just a couple of us working hard. It’s a good feeling when the steamer lid comes off and everything looks right. It’s a busy life but we like it here in Andheri and we'll be here tonight.
