Sri Sayed Moin Jafri is located at number 32 in the Shanti Building in Byculla. If you know the area, it is right near the bus stop, so you can imagine how much noise there is throughout the day. People are always waiting for their ride, and you can hear the engines idling and the conductors calling out the stops. It’s a very central spot to be in. The building itself, Shanti Building, is an older structure but it’s sturdy and has a lot of character. I spend most of my days here, handling whatever comes across my desk. It’s a one-man sort of operation mostly, so things can get a bit hectic if too many people show up at once. I don’t have a fancy waiting room or air conditioning that works perfectly all the time. It is just a practical space for practical work. Being in Byculla, you meet all sorts of people from different backgrounds. I usually start my day quite early before the heat gets too bad. By the afternoon, the sun hits the front of the building, and it can get quite warm inside. I’ve been at this address for long enough that the bus drivers even recognize me. It’s just a small piece of the city where I do my bit. No big plans, just working day by day. The locals know my name and they know where the building is, which is enough for me.
